Education

The Chesapeake Chapter, CAI provides education opportunities for community association volunteers, professional community managers and service providers. Our education options range from beginner to advanced topics including community association operations, how to lead and manage people and how to avoid costly mistakes. Some of our education programs lead to professional designations.

Breakfast Seminars for Homeowners, Managers and Service Providers


Programming created for managers, homeowners, board members and service providers involved with the community association industry.  The Chesapeake Chapter Breakfast Seminar Programs are designed to provide the tools, resources and contacts to help you manage and work with community association volunteers, managers and business partners.  CAI programs encourage attendees to be proactive, involved and informed.

Managers receive Continuing Education Credits towards their CAI designations when they attend these breakfast programs. (Download Brochure and Application)

Programs for Homeowners

Board Member Basics is free to CAI members and nonmembers. All you have to do is click the appropriate links and dedicate the time necessary to review and understand the information. You can then put what you’ve learned into practice—and encourage others to take advantage of this learning opportunity.

The Essentials of Community Association Volunteer Leadership  
course (formerly known as "ABCs") is the next step in preparing to assume a leadership role in your community. In this one-day, intensive program, you will learn:

  • How to communicate with the members (other homeowners).
  • How to instill a sense of community among residents.
  • How to hire qualified product and service providers.
  • How to develop and implement enforceable rules and regulations.
  • How to read and monitor financial statements.

Essentials is also an excellent refresher course for professionals and experienced volunteers and provides students with comprehensive information about association communications, community-building policies, and association problem-solving. (Download Essentials Flyer)

Homeowner Seminars

The Chesapeake Chapter, CAI is presenting the following 2010 seminars designed specifically to educate and inform board members and homeowners:

Professional Designations for Managers
Professional Management Development Program (PMDP)
The PMDP consists of three levels of courses designed to give new managers a knowledge base and experienced managers a deeper understanding of all aspects of association management. Courses focus on such topics as insurance, finance, leadership, governance, and communications.

CAI awards qualified professionals with designations in order to improve the quality and effectiveness of community management. The following designations are awarded by CAI:

Association Management Specialist® (AMS®)

Professional Community Association Manager® (PCAM®)
Accredited Association Management Company® (AAMC®)
